...but our computer got infected!!! It's kind of a long story. We were going to carve pumpkins but I spent most of the day trying to fix our Dell laptop which was infected by "Security Tool". That was one nasty booger to put it mildly. It was a virus that pretends to be a security tool, warning you that your computer has like 42 infections and that you must buy their product ($80) to get rid of these viruses before they destroy your hard drive, send your information, steal your credit card numbers, etc. It's so nasty because no matter what you do several windows pop up at a time making it very difficult to navigate your computer. The more you click out of the windows to see the more they appear. It drove me nuts!! After panicking because we thought we had like 42 infections consisting of trojans, worms, malware, etc. I started thinking wait a minute, what if Security Tool IS the virus (ah ha moment). Luckily we have the MacBook and were able to google (my favorite thing) Security Tool and sure enough it WAS the virus. So, after reading many forums, all which stated NOT to buy the product because once you do, well you may as well call your banks, credit cards, etc. Thank goodness we had enough common sense not to put our credit/debit card number into the stupid thing to "fix" the problem.
After a long and tedious process trying to rid our computer of this virus I finally figured it out and got rid of it. So, if anyone ever gets this, first of all DON'T put in your credit/debit info, instead google "Security Tool" and you should be able to follow the steps to destroy it. It does help to have another computer handy, if possible. Be prepared for it to take a while though.
We also came to the conclusion that as expensive as they are and can sometimes make exchanging information from PCs to Macs difficult, it's worth the money to have a Mac. You just don't have to worry about all that crud with Macs. So, until we are rich enough to have the setup we would like with Macs we'll make do with our one MacBook and the Dell. So, as I mentioned earlier we WERE going to carve pumpkins, but now have plans to do it on Wednesday. Yay!!
For the record...
