are you kidding me?!?!

so i'll paint you a picture of our thursday afternoon when this creature came into our lives...

it's a nice day, about to rain so the sky was getting dark and it was nice and cool, just how i like it. we checked the mail and madison was riding her tricycle while allie was running around with sippy cup in hand. i got the camp chair out to sit down in for a second while i read the mail and they played. as i'm looking at my new business cards that came i hear madison pointing behind me saying "mama! look!" i turned around real fast thinking allie is getting into something... yeah, she is, A SPIDER! permanent goosebumps all over my body! she's sitting there about to pick this thing up!!?? i'm freaking out. i grabbed allie and just ran around with her not quite sure what to do. i'm sure the neighbors were getting a kick out of this. i can only imagine what it looked like:) my first thought is ewwwwww, run! my second thought is i need to kill this thing! third thought, how in the world am i going to kill it, you just don't step on a spider that big? so what do i do? i run for the camera thinking i have GOT to get a picture of this thing to show our exterminator to find out whether this thing is going to eat us in our sleep if there's more. how crazy is that? normal people grab something and smash it, me, get the camera??? you know, that way you can zoom in real close without getting close, then run inside and look up what kind of spider it is. annnyyywaay, after we had our photo shoot and the thing sat there still the whole time!? i had to contain it because i didn't know how to kill it. i DID NOT want this running away alive! so i emptied madison's sidewalk chalk to use the container. madison is jumping for joy because now she has sidewalk chalk to play with:) thank goodness i approached this thing from behind or it would have jumped on me and i would have fainted, then the girls would be running around outside unsupervised with a spider running rampant... i put the container over the spider before it jumped, yes jumped (what kind of spider jumps?????) there. it was caught. for fear it was strong enough to move the plastic container and escape i put a paint can on top just to be sure:) i then of course quickly found my phone and called brandon and told him "you CANNOT back into the garage, i caught a spider!" i'm sure he's thinking "what?!?" but then i explained it and well, he took care of it when he got home. my work was done....

so, the spider was a wolf spider. poisonous, but not lethal. they do bite, are extremely fast spiders and they jump. apparently it's one of the biggest spiders around here. i called our exterminator (wondering just why we're paying $50 a month to have chemicals sprayed in our house yet STILL come across this thing!?) she said they'll focus more on the spiders next time, whatever that means? so there you have it, another story about creatures i don't like.... snakes, mice, and spiders, oh my!
